He is an avid backcountry horseman and outdoorsman, who loves to make music about the strengths and shortcomings of animals and humans. His considers the following songwriters as major influences: James Taylor, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Robert Earl Keen, and Lucinda Williams.
