Description
Instrumental Indie Rock & Avant Jazz from NYC
Notes
"Top Flight", the long awaited sophomore effort from New York instrumental avant/rock outfit, Barky, finds the dexterous trio in far more raucous and spontaneous territory than their comparatively tame debut, "A Study In Rocking". However, despite the blistering tempos and head scratching metric modulations, the band manages to maintain their signature sense of melody, song and humor, affording them wider accessibility than many of their math-rock prone contemporaries.
Recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs, "Top Flight" captures the band in their most primal, frenetic state, offering a pristine documentation of the raw sound Barky has developed through five years of touring.
The Onion's Decider.com had this to say about "Top Flight":
"...Barky certainly doesn’t hide the fact that its music is tricky to play—Scott Barkan’s guitar skitters across fractured scales, and drummer Brook Martinez and bassist Noah Jarrett are damnably hard to count along with. But it’s completely fun and agreeable in its weirdness, a little like Deerhoof at its most happy-go-crazy but with an ear for fluid melodies instead of just abrasively scrunched-up chords."
