Description
A combination of New Age ambiance and Chillout grooves, with Worldbeat elements. Equally suited for active listening or as a background to your daily routine.
Notes
OtherSong is a collection of chilled, downtempo tracks from the past three years. Music critics noted that Longing for Orpheus' debut album, Skye, contained a wide range of styles within its overarching genre - OtherSong continues this trend, featuring tracks that represent Balearic Beat (EverSoul), Ambient (EmberSpeed), New Age (CloverLight), and Progressive Electronic (ForestWake) subgenres. The array of grooves, folk instruments, and layered synthesis contribute to an album designed to fully engage the curiosity of listeners who loves to explore new combinations of sounds, without distracting those looking for a soundtrack to their daily lives.

About Longing for Orpheus:
Longing for Orpheus is a downtempo electronica project created by Derek Smootz in 2003. Drawing on influences such as Vangelis, Enigma, and Enya, the project's sound is rooted in synthesis, but also includes instruments, voices, and musical ideas from diverse cultures. The music's tone is generally subdued and relaxing, but its mood ranges from melancholic to euphoric.
"Longing for Orpheus' obvious passion and sincerity can't be overlooked"
-Bill Binkelman, New Age Reporter/Wind and Wire
Derek Smootz is a classically trained pianist and vocalist, and a self-taught synthesist and audio engineer. He is also involved in side projects Artificial Emotion (dance-oriented) and Ice Queen Alias (synthpop), performs with various choirs and theaters in the Austin area, and maintains the "After Enigma" online guide to Nu Ambient music.
