Taking influences from classic and 90s rock and sprinkling reggae in between.
Notes
When learning how to play an instrument, you need good influence and plenty of patience. When compiling different musical techniques into one sound, you need talent. This genius is obvious in Higher Education's debut album, Chasing Highs. This 11-track compilation fuses together rock and reggae like you've never heard before. Brothers Peter and Danny Devaney, along with drummer Bradley Wilson make you appreciate the art of music, and have created a sound that often takes you to another world.
Danny wastes no time showing off his masterful guitar skills in the opening and title track of Chasing Highs. You can hear and feel the influence Kurt Cobain had on him, and with each strum you find yourself taking out an air guitar to play along. On bass, Peter provides the wild harmony, rhythm, and pulse. You can really get a taste for what Brad brings to the group in this track. He is the steady sound that accentuates the guitars and drives home the message with heavy rhythms.
Peter and Danny share duties on vocals, bass, and guitar, but provide their own elements. Throughout the album you can really get a feel for the influences of each member. Peter's subliminal sound and style comes from legends such as John Lennon, Bob Marley, and Bradley Nowell. Danny is impacted by Cobain, as well as Jack White and Jimi Hendrix. Brad uses his laid back style to create heavy beats derived from Vinnie Paul of Pantera, and Tim Alexander of Primus.
