Description

Indie-rock meets tin-pan alley in this collection of beautiful, broken tunes and ingenious lyrics.

Notes

Mark McAdam is a songwriter and musician from the other side of the musical tracks. He lives in a roomful of second-hand instruments on Manhattan’s Lower East Side where he eats and sleeps. McAdam used to front the seminal Los Angeles junk rock band Sumack before setting out on his own with this debut, Boy Wonder, in 2003. His follow up, Cavalcade, is also available here. Coming soon: Paper Man Songs, which, you may have guessed, contains songs culled from his work on the film "Paper Man."

Songs from Boy Wonder have found their way into several films and television shows including “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Malcolm in the Middle” and others too numerous and embarrassing to mention. It includes contributions from Pete McNeal (Cake, Mike Doughty’s Band, Inara George), Dermont Mulroney (Low & Sweet Orchestra, Cranky George, (and all-around genre-straddling heartthob)), and Charles Goodan (Dust Brothers).

Reviews…

Beautiful, fabulous, incredible. Sweet, lightly raspy, melodic, excellent vocals, wonderfully-fit lyrics, poppy, weepy, gorgeous guitar melodies, and clever structures reign in each and every song. - Action Attack Helicopter

A low-key, hidden gem of a record. The kind of album Wilco might make if they never read their own press clippings. - All Music Guide

McAdam passes through one musical room to another, but always with the kind of relaxed skill that most musicians secretly aspire to. - Amplifier

...imaginative, crisp, smart and inventive. We have gone completely apeshit over this album. - Babysue.com

Boy Wonder is perceptive and lonely, alternately sparse and lavish, evocative and amusing, ... One of the most intelligent, enjoyable albums I’ve heard in a long time. -Splendid
