Five years in a row nominated "Best music" at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (in different categories), The Wimshurst's Machine is a seven members italian orchestra who plays warm, intelligent music based in Torino, Italy.

Between all the soundtracks and awards of the band we will note the Hollywood Music in Media Award nominations (five times: in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014), the Music Aid (2007), the International Online Music Awards (2006 and 2007). Best soundtrack placement with "Freedom Calls" as main titles of the british movie "The Quiet Assassin" (directed by Alex Hardcastle, Channel4, UK, 2006) but the band scored many soundtracks for documentaries, stage plays and movies all around the world (and this partially explains also the particularly eclectic band's style).

The Wimshurst's Machine's first album ("A traveller who didn't ask for glory", 2004) is based on the notion that ancient explorers lived most of their lives through violent but incredible adventures. In this album you may read (and listen to) a story that tells about an ancient traveler that obtained glory while he was searching for himself across the world. This album reached #2 Top downloaded Electronic album and #26 Overall on the iTunes italian online store in 2005!

In "The Alchemist" (TWM's second album, 2005) the storytelling is about an Alchemist, during the spanish late middle age. Also in this other album you may listen to more than 1 hour of music, ideally the soundtrack of the story the CD itself is telling (that you may also read from the inlay card in the original edition), flowing as in a movie. An audiobook version of the booklet is available for free download in the "music" section of the official TWM's website.

The 3rd album, "Time Traveller" (2007), is a project made of 37 tracks in a double CD edition which includes also an 18 pages full-colors booklet with a complete novel written by Duilio Chiarle (in italian) and the great illustrations of Daniele Scerra (spectrum artist 2006). The album describes in music the novel. Digital version of the booklet downloadable for free in the official website of the band (explore it!). Out in 2007 also the collection "Freedom Lights" (sort of a "best of" 2003-2007) published by the british indie label Astranova only on iTunes, with a remastered selection of tracks from the first two albums and two singles from the 3rd one. Cover art a concept-art by Augusto Chiarle.

In 2009 published "Secret Gardens", a 20 tracks CD who contains, together with some award-winning chillout hit such as "Cimmeria", "Low Tide", "Pegasus", "Pain in Pleasure" also 2 suites: "Moonshadows" (Vangelis's styled ambient) and "Secret Garden" (classical collection of TWM's compositions). Out in 2010, "Thunder and Lightning" where the novel told is about sort of a modern Noah, a scientist who discovers a great disaster is incoming but he has no time to warn the world. In the album also 4 spoken-word tracks narrated in italian by the young actress Evita Bonino. Out in 2010 also "Aquarius (the best of TWM)", a collection of all the most-wanted chillout tracks of TWM from 2003 to 2009. The best CD where start if you don't know yet the music of TWM. Cover art photo by Dorina Xhaxho.

Out in 2011, "Tokyo Rain" is again published by the indie british label Astranova and is a collection of works who sees The Wimshurst's Machine write music with the friend Corrado Rossi, with the cover art by Antonio Seijas, also cover artist for Marillion and many others.

In 2012 the band decided to publish the first live album, collecting live jams and recording "Breathe (live)", a great album that got very nice reviews, with mainly previously unreleased live jams and some live recording of previous hits.

Waiting to release "clockwork Life", as the album got a bit late, in 2013 the band released a new, remastered single-CD edition of "Time Traveller", from many considered the best studio album of the band (as the double CD edition of 2007 is going to be discontinued: if you want it, try to get one of the few copies left before they would be sold out).

But 2013 is also the 10th year of TWM, so the band decided to release "Tales (10 years of TWM)", a celebrative album with the best tracks from all the albums published so far, with the absolutely primo-quality art of Daniele Scerra as cover art.

In 2014 the band released "The Experiment" (this album you may listen here), an album who collects mostly progressive tracks, some already published in previous albums and some yet to be released.

Why the name "The Wimshurst's Machine"? There is nothing as fascinating as an old technology, so we chose this old precursor that made possible even the use of electricity in modern times. The choice happened by chance, talking in a brewery, while looking for an original band name that would show the world how complicated but fascinating our project is. Influences: Very difficult to say. We just play what's going on in our heads and hearts and I must say each one of us likes different kinds of music, but the union of the 8 of us created something that looks like "Café Del Mar" or "Buddha Bar" as a 1st impression. We like the idea to set a mood for the complete album, that has to be an experience in itself and not "just" a collection of songs.

Equipment used: We do have plenty of acoustic instruments, from Saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor and bari), clarinet, flutes, guitars (classic and spanish), trumpets, dulcimer, bagpipes, mandolin, drums and lots of others... but we have also plenty of electric guitars, many different MIDI keyboards/controllers and so on... even iPads! At the same time we also use powerful softwares, to record our music professionally but at low cost.

Before let you go: the band (as band) decided to give the money raised with the CD sales for Charity (and precisely 50% of the money raised out of expenses), and support various projects.
