Notes

Destinations is a musical journey dabbling in smooth jazz, blues, country and even reggae. Grady explains: “I’ve always felt like you could put the saxophone in any genre and it works. So on this record, we experimented with a lot of genres, yet maintained a cohesive project from start to finish.”

To help create Destinations, Grady approached Chris Rodriguez to produce and co-write the CD. Chris has toured with artists such as diverse as Kenny Loggins, Amy Grant, Keith Urban and Faith Hill and brought that diversity to Destinations. Grady’s concept was for the saxophone to be treated as a lead singer and create songs that were very lyrical. And while you may hear strings, a banjo, a steel guitar or steel drum, it is still in a sophisticated contemporary jazz context.

Destinations includes a couple of vocal tunes (“Nothin’ Better” and “Superman”) and a couple of cover tunes (Journey’s “Faithfully” and Keith Urban’s “Only You Can Love Me This Way”). Jeff Lorber (who produced and co-wrote Grady’s CD Sophistication) also produced and co-wrote “You With Me” for Destinations. And Bill Champlin (formerly of Chicago and also appeared on Grady’s In The Fullness of Time project) is featured on “You Know Me.” The first single, London Baby!, is being received enthusiastically at Smooth Jazz Radio.

Grady pushed the envelope with Destinations and created a project that is fresh yet very palatable to contemporary jazz fans.
