Far
(Jim Boyd/Dan Ingberman)

How longs it been
Since you know when
The windows were down
Our arms were brown
How longs it been since we just drove on?

Like moths flying to headlights
Moving down a road at night
Its time we took a stand to keep things moving
Nodding at all the turns, showing your choosing
I might die unless I just drive on

A new story just beginning
To run through a mind that’s spinning
Next stops Albuquerque then after Kansas City
Canada’s a place you’ve always wanted to be
If we make it that far we might just drive on and on and on

Everyone’s got a tail
Mine’s back about a quarter mile
Never knew I loved you so much
It came with the smell of tires and a stripped clutch
Wind whips your hair and I pray to God he’s there as we just drive on

End of the Highway
(Ingberman)

It’s over at the end
Of the highway that you bent
It’s out there now, and really out there then

Sometimes there is no reason
Sometimes there is no song
But, you know, we will go on

I never ever had the time
To understand if you were cryin’
It wasn’t my priority
Just the minority
Of my mind

I don’t know what to say
Can’t make it go away
Can’t sing a pretty song song
But, you know, we will go on

But now it’s all come down to this
You’re not just gone, but there’s a twist
There’s nothing I can do
To make it up to you
But, you know, we will go on

Falling
(Ingberman)

I only see you when you’re sleeping
I never asked and you never told me why
We only talking when you’re dreaming
Well I never meant to make you cry
Every time we do this
It always turns out the same
Story after story
I won’t always take the blame
Every time we say it
Every time we mean it
I’m so far from you
Lyin awake all those lonely nights
You just sleeping sleeping sleeping by my side
Listen to the heartbeat of then dancing lights
Looking for a warm place to hide

Always want to know is there something wrong
Got a feeling does it take too long
Story after story its all right its all wrong
Lying awake again waiting for the dawn
Falling falling falling
You’re so far away
Falling falling falling
I couldn’t stand the weight
I’m so far from you

Got a List
(Ingberman)

Got something on my mind
Not sure what it is but I got a list
Used to be 18, used to be 25
Don’t want to grow up but over time

I’m keeping secrets from myself
Got a funny feeling inside
I’m telling lies to myself
Got too much to hide

Not looking for satisfaction
Springtime days all over again
Wild and crazy times all we ever wanted
Fill my shoes and carry me through

Its too late for the prom
Got too many miles before I sleep
Don’t know what I need, just know that I need
Trading apples for oranges and hoping it comes out the same

Life’s unfair – things don’t come out the same
The weight becomes too heavy
This moment will pass away
And this moment will never come again

Stay away from what makes me nervous
Run away from what makes me hurt
Don’t think about what makes me want to hide
I can’t hide I can’t see I can’t breathe I can’ t cry

Thinking one thing and I’m doing another
Ev’ry moment passes on to the other
In the end everyone is oh so alone
But we can’t let go, no we can’t let go…

Around and Around

You left me all alone
You left me standing by the side of the road
You made me laugh, you made me cry
You made me feel like I was gonna die

Baby I just can’t take it anymore
Baby I just can’t fake it anymore
Baby I’m heading through that door
(Baby I don’t like this anymore)
I’ve heard jumping and screaming
Then you say you only been dreaming
You go up and down
You go around and around

Lady I just don’t like this anymore
Lady I just don’t want this anymore
Baby take me back to the store

Now you want to come back home
You don’t like being all alone
You made me laugh, you made me cry
You made me feel like I was gonna die
Now you wanna come back home
You wanna know if I’m still alone
I made you laugh, you made me cry, now its time to say goodbye
That job of yours ain’t gonna make you rich
Yeah life sucks and your woman’s a bitch
You go around and around
You go up and down
You go in and out
You go about and about
You go up and down, You go around and around
You go up and down, You go around and around

Too Many Miles
(Ingberman)

I walk out of the shadows
I’m standing in the dirty rain
I’m lookin’ for a reason and I’m lookin’ to explain
Don’t wanna leave you this way
Too many miles, too many left to go
Too many miles, I’m runnin’ out of hope
I’m standing on the corner
And I’m waiting for my man
I’m wading through the mud and slime
And I’m wondering once again
Why do I feel like I’ve been here forever and a day
Too many miles, too many left to go
Too many miles, I’m runnin’ out of hope
Too many miles, Too many tears
I can’t run from all my fears
I’m rollin’ in my auto
And I’m making pretty good time
I’m lookin’, I’m lookin’ to forget, and I’m lookin’ at the white line
Too many miles, too many left to go
Too many miles, I’m runnin’ out of hope
Too many miles, Too many tears
Yeah well I know I done you wrong,
Never listened, never said nothing but “no”
Too many miles, too many left to go
Too many miles, I’m runnin’ out of hope
Too many miles, Too many tears
Too many miles, Too many fears
I don’t know where I’m supposed to be, but I know it can’t be here.

Too Broke to Fix
(Ingberman)

Just can’t get you out of my mind
Can’t stop thinking all the time
Others before and others since
Only get one like this
You put your loving arms around me, and held me tight
But then you looked away lying through the night
I’m your man in your best laid plans
The longer it goes on
The harder it becomes
Take the big bull by the horns
Be early bird get the worm
Can’t forget you calling me: can I come back again?
I’ll love you and hold you and I’ll –never–hurt–you–again
I’m your man in your best laid plans
I was born to be with you
I Can’t stop thinking all about you
We are one we’re not the same
I’m still missing you all over again
Yeah I know living with me was bringing her down
She was high as a kite in the clouds so loud so loud
I’m your man in your best laid plans
In your dreams you come to me and everything’s the same
In place of you a memory won’t go away
I’m your man in your best laid plans

coming back
(Ingberman)

Dark clouds moving fast
all that pain still I laugh
I am sure you have moved on
you're not one to be looking back
you're not one to be looking back
you're not one to be looking back
Things remind me of times we shared
I remember that dress you’d wear
I am sure you have moved on
I remember how you'd toss your hair
I remember how you'd toss your hair
I remember how you'd toss your hair
I don't wanna live forever
still waiting for my muse
I'm sure you've moved on
I keep coming back to you
I keep coming back to you
I keep coming back to you
I’m coming back, I'm coming back to you

Love You Too Much
(Ingberman)

I love(d) you too much (4x)

I love(d) you too much (4x)
I never liked my face
Basking in your light
I know its wrong to feel this way
But I do anyway
I love(d) you too much (4x)
I never liked my face
Basking in your light
I know its wrong to feel this way
But I do anyway
I know its wrong (3x)
But this feeling won’t go away
Won’t go away (3x)

The Road
(Ingberman)

Its pretty windy today
Clear crisp clean blue sunny day
And the moon anyway
I hear the road calling me
I feel the road calling me
I see the road calling me
I need the road calling me
Danger bird, flying free
Gliding high, all to see
Old people, singing old songs
Make me feel young again
Wave that flag, red white and blue
Over and over again
Anyone can play a part, its what you make of it
Any head can rule the heart, its what you say to it
Any fool can blow their wad, its where you go with it
Feed on my love, touch me now
Just want to be with you
Just want to be with you
I’m hurt and I need you to heal me
I’m broke and I need you to fix me
I’m still running, I can’t stop, I can’t reach the end
Take me out of this place
Take me out of this place
Take me out of this place

Came to me in dreams
(Jim Boyd/Dan Ingberman)

Like a scene from a plane
Walking on the wings of a plane
I could swear I was sitting alone
In some Paris café
2000 miles away
City on top of a hill
Never been there before, but that’s not the feel
Something is amiss
Down in precinct 56
Bright blue shadows
Walking down the lonely road
Coat turned up against the cold
Well I been there before, it came to me in dreams

Simple Things
(Jim Boyd/Dan Ingberman)

Need to know
Need to know now
All the people in this world
Need to know what’s simple now

What is this place
What’s next
What am I hearing
What am I fearing
Why can’t we know these things
Why do we hear these things
Why do we see these things
The answer is
Need to know
Need to know now
All the people in this world
Need to know these simple things

Notes:
We designated this project as “completed” in February 2013 – meaning there is still a long way to go. We welcome feedback.
Recording notes: Most of the basic tracks were recorded on in three days in October – December 2011. Most overdubs/mixing occurred January-May 2012, and then resumed in November 2012 – January 2013.
Song notes: Writing a song is kind of like vomiting. Doesn’t matter what else is happening … the song must come out and it won’t take “no” for an answer until everything is out. Don’t have a choice. Sometimes its an exhausting process.
Conversely, I can’t just summon up a song whenever I want. So, for example, it took about a year after Jim Boyd presented me with the words for “Far” before the music came out.
Recording/mixing is very different. It feels like Daniel T and I sweated the arrangements and then our individual parts millions of times. Then we went through everything another billion times to mix and replay parts, etc. Quite a bit actually for only two of us.
We actually recorded 22 songs (depending on how you count) for this project. Originally we had two disks – one was the “east side” and the other the “west side”. Each disk told a somewhat different story. Ultimately we decided to slim from 2 disks to one. Leaving songs out was tough, especially songs that multiple reviewers liked. In the end we went with the collection of songs that together told the most coherent combined story. (We still have the other songs, of course. They will resurface in the future.)
1. Too Broke to Fix
Written in September 2011. Recorded a few weeks later (10/11/11). Daniel T replayed drums and bass in Fall 2012.

2. Simple Things *
My “signature” song for many years. Originally written March 1992 with Jim Boyd. I had the chords and the idea. After I explained the idea to him, Jim came up with most of the words. The music has evolved considerably over time. We first recorded in 1992. I re-recorded in 1996. Basic tracks for this version recorded 11/11/11.

3. Coming Back
Written in September 2011 the same week as Too Broke to Fix. Basic tracks for this version recorded the same day as Too Broke to Fix (10/11/11). Daniel T replayed drums in Fall 2012.

4. Positive
5. Too Many Miles
Positive was written in July 2010. Too Many Miles in April 1996 and first recorded around that time. Basic tracks for this version recorded in February 2012. Daniel T replayed drums and bass in late 2012/early 2013.

6. Got a List
Written in July 2010. Song essentially wrote itself – no song ever came out faster or so close to final recorded form. Basic tracks for this version recorded same day as Simple Things (11/11/11). Daniel T replayed drums in Fall 2012.

7. Came to Me in Dreams *
Another long-time signature song. Originally written in 1993. Jim originated the chords and most of the words. This is the fourth recording; previous versions 1994, 1996, and 1999. Basic tracks for this version recorded the same day as Simple Things (11/11/11). Daniel T replayed drums and bass in Fall 2012.

8. Falling
9. Leaving
10. Love(d) You Too Much
Falling was written in Fall 1998. Leaving/Love(d) You Too Much written in February 2012. Basic tracks for this version recorded in March 2012. Daniel T replayed drums and bass in Fall 2012.

11. End of the Highway
Written in pieces. Words in summer 2010. Music came suddenly in June 2011. Recorded March 2012.

12. Around and Around
Written in February 1992. Song arrangement has evolved considerably. This version recorded December 2011.

13. The Road
Written in February 2012. Basic tracks for this version recorded in March 2012. Daniel T replayed drums and bass in Fall 2012.

14. Far *
Jim wrote the words in July 2010. I stared at them for a long time. Music finally came to me (suddenly) in September 2011. Basic tracks for this version recorded the same day as Too Broke to Fix (10/11/11). Daniel T replayed drums and bass in Fall 2012.
