Description

Previously unreleased, "unearthed" 20 years after-the-fact, and newly remastered. This was Jeff's 1993 demo reel for Film & TV, which gives a glimpse of the Simon Apple songwriter coming of age with songs written in his late teens and early 20's.

Notes

In 1993, while Jeff and the rest of Simon Apple were working on Simon Apple material, the band's manager, at the time, suggested to Jeff about writing music for film & television. To get into that "world", one, of course, needs a demo to shop around for potential interest. Jeff culled through some musical ideas he had laying around, and created some new ones.

Jeff recalls, "I believe these ideas were all written between the age of 19-23. These weren't recorded on multi-track. Everything was recorded straight to 2 track - either a DAT or cassette...I can't recall. If it was DAT, that no longer exists, unfortunately. I only have a master cassette...which I found in 2015. I forgot it even existed. All of the parts were recorded into a MIDI sequencer and straight to tape. The guitar parts were recorded live as the MIDI parts were going to tape....mixed on the fly! Listening back after 20+ years, there are obviously things I would do differently to improve in both the writing and recording. But, since nothing was multi-tracked, I can't remix it. I would have to re-record everything from scratch...which I don't have the time, energy, or desire to do! I did, however, remaster it in 2015 (actually, it was probably mastered for the first time...I don't recall it being mastered back then). It's simply a snapshot of a period in time... and I can live with that, despite any short-comings. Musically, it has bits of classical, smooth jazz, atmospheres, rock, new age, etc. Unfortunately, nothing every came of this. But, as a songwriter, it was a good learning experience, if nothing else."
