Description

A unique and compelling voice; soaring melodic vocals and intriguing lyrics. A singer-songwriter hybrid of lyric and sanskrit chant inspired by the practice of Kirtan, or devotional chanting originating in India, now popular in the western yoga world.

Notes

There are some amazingly talented musicians on this album. David Watts on Bass, Matthew Hufschmidt on drum kit, Manohar Gurung on tabla, frame drum and kanjira, Jennifer Sparks playing harp and singing background vocals, Jeremy Powell on saxophones, Saul David Raye with some spoken word, Abby Scoville on Cello, Chase Nichter on violin. Yoshi Aono on electric guitar, Bob Tudor on B3 organ.

Rick Franz provided producer ears in studio for many days as well as adding some tasty bits of guitar candy.

Jim Beckwith is a singer with a unique and compelling voice; a soulful texture that draws on influences from jazz and pop to R&B and voices from around the world. Placido Domingo Jr. Called his voice "something like a refined Sting".

Jim Beckwith also plays live music in yoga classes, festivals, workshops and retreats, interpreting with an array of exotic instruments including sitar, flutes, and various exotic percussion and striking vocals orchestrated in the moment...

Beckwith tours frequently with Saul David Raye, renowned yoga teacher and has played with many other kirtan artists such as Jai Uttal, Bhagavan Das, Govindas & Radha, Brenda McMorrow, CC White, David Newman, Kirtaniyas and frequently at the Bhakti Yoga Shala in Santa Monica playing at Monday Night Kirtan.
