Notes

The release of Aaron Mingo’s CD, “The Motion Picture Ming Mixtape,” is a time for celebration. It represents both continuity and change in African American expressive culture. Mingo’s initial project is an important moment where art triumphs over artifice. Featuring fourteen tracks, each revealing another dimension of his artistry, the Motion Picture Ming Mixtape covers themes as varied as family, personal relationships, religion, spirituality, sports, style and the challenge facing African Americans in today’s society. Each cut clearly shows Mingo’s skills as a songwriter and performer. He moves with ease from “D.C. to Go Go” to “ Stop Frontin” and it is evident that this Hip Hop Mixtape is going to be a classic. The response has already been overwhelming. It has been selected as "CD Spotlight Album of the Week" in a Philadelphia newspaper, featured on the Urban Philly website and nationally acclaimed in Liberator Magazine. Mingo has received international attention through his selection as Spotlight Artist on the Global Cipha website: www.thaglobalcipha.com. Mingo is captured in “Hip Hop Modes of Being: The Interplay of the Personal, Public and Historical,” in the following manner: “ The newest Philly artist to bring that North Philly Flava to the game is Aaron Mingo and it is in the tradition of what is known as Hip Hop Eco Composition. Mingo’s cinematic narrative is in Hip Hop Nation Language and it conveys the sense and sound ,the emotional history of a young Black man coming to consciousness in 21st century America. It also provides a glimpse into the collective lives of a generation of African Americans living in urban spaces as diverse as Philly, Willingboro and Shady Grove.”
