Notes

This song took forever. It sounds simple and easy to play (which it is) but it’s one of the longest processes I’ve been through on a song. It all started when I had this simple little jingle going on in my head (chorus) with a fun guitar rhythm. All I had for the longest time was just one little chorus and everyone kept telling me to finish it. To be honest, I didn’t think that one little chorus was so great. So I kind of put it off for a long time. I just kept procrastinating on the song because I never thought it was worth taking any further. As time went on, people still kept telling that it was catchy and that I should finish it. So just to get everyone to be quiet and leave me alone, I wrote a verse! Just one verse melody. And I actually thought the verse was kind of fun. But I didn’t know what to do after that. I didn’t know what the song was about and I didn’t know what lyrics would fit the melody. So just to fill the time until I found actual lyrics, I just kept singing the verses as “la la la” and the chorus’s as “Oh ooo-whao oh’s”. Then again, I left the song for a while because I just didn’t know where else to go. It started to get frustrating.

Then of course, everyone kept telling me to finish it and it just wouldn’t stop! So again, just to get everyone to be quiet, I finished the song! And I left the chorus’s as “Oh ooo-whoa oh’s” and the verses as “la la la” just to piss everyone off. That plan blew up in my face because instead, they liked those lyrics! They thought it was “catchy”. I thought it was crap! I was honestly a little stunned! But time went on and then after a while we started playing the song live. One of the first shows to play that song at was at the Whiskey a Go-Go. The crowd loved it. They thought it was a lot of fun. And surprisingly, it was fun for the band too! The 50’s feel with the simple lyrics made a good impression on people. Then we took it to the studio. We spent over 100 hours on it because even though it was fun live just the way it was, we wanted to try different styles. We tried an acoustic style and an electric style, but neither was as fun as the original. So we decided to keep it the same. And after a few modifications and tweaks here and there, the song Can’t Find It just came crashing through and excited lots of people.
