Description
Euphoric electro pop tinged indie rock with a confessional heart
Notes
Crush is the follow-up to Dusk Tree, Mark Raven’s 2013 debut. Since Dusk Tree, Raven has gone through a gamut of life events; the aftermath of depression, the end of a three year relationship and the resulting rethinking of his life.
There are some songs reminiscent of the spare alternative folk sound that comprised of his debut, such as the gorgeously melodic “Southern Heart” and dream-like “September”. But Crush is a different animal. The dominant sound is one of electronic-edged indie rock, at times glimmering and soulful, bursting forth in rays of synth-powered light; both emotionally impactful and euphoric. There is the muscular guitar work of “Queen” and the expansive beauty of “Whitehall”. There is the absolute bliss of “All Night” and the palatable romantic warmth of “Astoria”.
Raven’s work on Crush is highly influenced by artists like Death Cab For Cutie, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lana Del Rey and Beach House. He co-produced the album with friend and producer Sarah Rose.
