40 Watt Dreams play soulful rock with powerful vocal harmonies, razor sharp electric guitars and hypnotic banjo. Katie West fronts the band singing songs that tell stories from dead end housing tracts and the open road, stories of love, loss, flood and drought. She is backed by one of the grooviest rythm sections around, Paul Schmidt on bass and Colin Mahoney on drums. Manchester born Danny McGaw plays electric guitar charged with raw emotion, while singing harmony with banjo picker and producer, Mike West. The lush sound of their live shows is earning 40 Watt Dreams a loyal following in the midwest.
But Katie West began her career in the South. She cut her teeth playing wash tub bass and blues piano in the streets and clubs of New Orleans. Then with Mike West she fronted the popular Alt-Country duo, Truckstop Honeymoon, recording eight albums and touring across three continents. In 2013 Katie released her first solo CD, titled “40 Watt Dreams”. So many people wanted to hear these songs live that she put together a band to play them. 40 Watt Dreams was born.
