Description

Acousto-electric pop poetry with gripping melodies and ripping guitar solos.

Notes

After the dissolution of his Russian tribute band Kino Proby, Adam Kurtz relearned English and began recording his musical musings, eventually compiling the cream of the crop into The Devil is Defeated, a ten-song semi-concept half-rock album melodifying the befores, durings, and afters of an era gone bad. His songs combine acoustic warmth with electric highs, playful and revealing lyrics with layered harmonies, and a sincerity in sound and theme that is rare in these binary times. The album provides more than a few sing alongs, head-bob alongs, and air-guitar inspiring riffs, which could be called air-guitar alongs. Live, Adam performs with an air tight rhythm section, hermitically sealed in order to prevent the infectious tunes from spreading, though so far the preventative measures have been unsuccessful. World Health authorities: take note.

Adam grew up in the Boston area playing Beatles songs and recording original – albeit wacky - songs on a 4-track, playing in various bands with friends as lead singer, guitarist, songwriter. After college, he welcomed a return to Boston and an entrance into the music scene, playing in Lost Pilot as lead guitarist, then The Fifty Mission Crush with his college roommate Patrick Walsh, also as lead guitarist and background vocals. When Patrick ran off to France to marry, Adam moved to Maine and started Kino Proby, an adrenaline pumping power trio tribute band to Russia’s Kino and Viktor Tsoy. Kino Proby developed a loyal cult following of Americans and Soviets alike, and the trio played regularly in Portland, ME and Boston, MA with a mini tour of Russia in the Summer of 2007 thrown in for kicks. When the other founding member of Kino Proby ran off to Russia to seek the perfect shot of vodka, Adam turned to his solo career, which resulted in The Devil is Defeated.
