Little Miss Lulu (Song of the Hairy Lulu Plucker)

"Make it sound like Austin Powers!... was the request made by friend of a friend; film-maker Wendy Hanna back in the late 90s when requesting a theme tune from multi-instrumentalist Adam Lean for her uber-camp mockumentary 'Good Hairdressing'. And that's just what Adam did, working with limited technology from his make-shift home-PC studio, located in his father's blue mountains basement (aka Bone Labs / Twisted Sounds), composing and recording the uptempo horn-driven shuffle 'Return of the Hairy Um-Mah' in a matter of days - Closely followed by variations on-a-groovy theme: 'Quiet Night at the Hariy Boodwah' and 'Big Al's Hairy Pad'..."

It was a freak meeting and a turning point in Adam's musical recording career, exposing him to many other film-makers and giving him the inspiration to challenge himself and build a formidable folio of sound-track friendly ditties in the key of fun! Up until then Adam had been recording experimental acid jazz-funk ditties on a four-track, Ensoniq ESQ-1 sequencer, complemented by electronic grooves on a Roland Groove-Box and not really considered himself capable of producing professional sound-tracks for film. The self-taught trombonist, trumpeter, pianist, bassist, guitarist and drummer had been chosen by Wendy simply because of his reputation as an imaginative multi-instrumentalist around the indie music scene of the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. It turned out his love of horn and organ infused acid-jazz, classical euphonium training and reputation as a handy live-music operator, not to mention secret passion to one-day be a composer for film and big bands made him the ideal choice for such a lofty request as conjuring a tune in the vein of one of the catchiest Jazz-pop recordings of all-time - namely Quincy Jones's: 'Soul Bossa-Nova'...

The rest is 00-Swingers History. Following the success of Good-Hairdressing and the subsequent live-performances and ensembles that followed, Adam was inspired to keep writing, recording and compile a series of lounge-jazz tracks for subsequent film projects and for his own soundtrack ambitions. The original acoustic drum tracks were recorded with a single kareoke mic, so in 2002 Adam reproduced what had till then been a gift for venue owners, friends and family - Extending the original 'Good-Hairdressing' theme from 1:30min to just over 4 mins; adding solos, a swing interlude and replacing the poorly captured acoustic drums with a more upbeat programmed rhythm track - Also incorporating an extra 6 tracks (including the omitted B-Side from his 2001 realease Bongobelly - 'She Banshee - Song of the Hairy Double D-Cup').

The result is a massive 14 track compilation of groovy soundtrack inspired songs in the key of 'Fun'.

Toe tapping swing ditties such as 'What's Up', 'Sure Feels Right' and latin shuffles such as 'Topless Harry's Paper Cup Speakeasy and 'Knee High Cactus Shoe Zone' are still part of Adam's Live lounge set with his Sydney-based-band 'The Funky Master Blasters' - and are always recieved with mirthful, appreciative applause.
