Description
This album is a hip hop journey from ego driven lyricism to reflective poetry.
Notes
It took a while for me to arrive where I am now musically. From being introduced to poetry to finding Hip Hop and then deciding to make music of my own, it has been a journey. For some, Hip Hop is a genre that lacks substance. For myself, it is an opportunity to grow, learn, and teach.
Having listened to artists like Atmosphere, Eyedea, and Krs-One, i was fortunate enough to find out early in life that Hip Hop could be used to build and shape society. Since discovering this, I have strived to use my poetic knowledge to help better mold the rhymes and their messages.
Having a child forced me to decide how to continue with my music; either follow the path of entertainment or art. I decided I'd rather make music that promote thought, evokes hope, and motivate people to reflect.
As much as I've been influenced by great Hip Hop artists, I've also drawn inspiration from philosophers, poets, and other great minds. I try to combine all of these influences to create my art with the hope of molding a future for Hip Hop that is more artistic than formulaic.
A coup d'etat is the forceful overthrow of a government. I hope to be part of the coup in the Hip Hop industry. A coup that remains, a coup that sticks. Acoupstix.
