Here’s what Steven Wilson (Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree…) says about the ‘Fact and Fiction’ album. “As a kid growing up in the 1980s I was very influenced by my father's LP collection of classic ʾ70's bands, so I was very curious when I read about a new generation of progressive bands. One of the albums that made a big impact on me was Twelfth Night's Fact and Fiction LP. Like many of the albums I've grown to love, I wasn't sure I liked it at first, as it didn't have a recognisable classic progressive sound, and there was an almost DIY post-punk aesthetic to it. But eventually it was this more edgy new wave quality that made me love it, and set the band apart from everyone else. I could hear common ground between other bands I was listening to at the time like The Cure & Joy Division, combined with the conceptual ambitions of the progressive music I liked so much. This is all best summed up by the album's epic opening track ‘We Are Sane’, which, for me, remains their masterpiece.
