Description
For those who are looking for this decade's answer to At the Drive-In or Cursive check out Patient Zero. A concept EP which tells the story of a man from birth to death dealing with an unknown virus.
Notes
One man finds himself dealing with his world collapsing around him as he learns that he is the first to be infected with an unknown virus. Listen as not only does his life change drastically but also those around him, from his mother's promising words at birth to the moment he tells his love that he has infected her as well.
The debut EP from Alarmists is a concept album, unusual for band's early recordings. Alarmists jump right in full force with screaming guitars, pounding drums and bass, but also with pianos, organs, violins and saxophones in the mix. Vocals that have been compared to Tim Kasher, Jim Ward, or Billy Corgan complete the album's dark tone, and add a personal feel to the concept to make the listener feel for the individual and what he's going through.
The album contains the singles 'Patient Zero', and 'Whispers' which are in rotation on collage radio stations across the country. Song's like 'So Far Away' and 'End Game' explore a more experimental sound adding in sitar and bongo drums which also help to set this album apart from the usual sounds expected to be hard in this genre. Songs like 'With a Kiss' go from being frantic to beautifully melancholic as the songs winds down to it's extended bridge.
The album is worth a listen to say the least, but at it's low price for over thirty minutes of music it's definitely worth a purchase as well.
