Description
"Windswept song craft" amidst 12-sting guitars, and pulsing rhythms. Folk rock with a garage influence, this band disbanded in 1996, so this is a collective retrospective. Beautiful harmonies, great songs.
Notes
Known for their "three-part harmonies" and "compelling radio friendly sound" (Billboard Magazine) the band has a unique "blend of windswept song craft aside six-string fire power" (Time Out, NY).
Combining the talents of three songwriters, the Wirebirds draw on an eclectic mix of sources for their music, including Appalachian folk, English traditional, British Invasion and 60's American pop.
Given the diversity of ingredients, the wirebirds sound deftly eludes the thumb of the pigeon-holer.
Sure there is the taste of their influences to be discerned (Fairport, Velvets, Groovies and Crazy Horse amongst those present and accounted for) - but the resultant blend - twelve and six string guitars, mandolin soaring harmonies, a pulsating undertow and moaning feedback - weave together to form an aural tapestry that is distinctly theirs. It is a sound that is compelling, and at times, haunting.
The original Wirebirds line-up includes Amanda Thorpe, Peter Stuart, Will Dial, Michael O'Neil, Nancy Polstein.
"Wow - this Wirebirds CD is excellent. It's my #1 listen right now. I immediately picked out Byrds and Fairport Convention sounds" D.J. Scott McCleary.
