The Painted Redstarts are an Austin Indie band that were top picks for SXSW, including features in the New York Times, Austin Monthly, Texas Monthly and one of seven bands featured by KUTX's SXSW "Seven To Watch." The band are regulars at the world renowned Continental Club. "Curtains Wide," "Mystical Ways" & "Foreign Fields" have been KUTX favorites. Foreign Fields includes a duet, "She's Got," with Alejandro Escovedo. Rolling Stone hailed the Painted Redstarts as the future of Austin music after their performance at ACL Live/Moody Theater for the United Sounds of Austin. The Painted Redstarts are comprised of William Harries Graham (son of 3 time Austin Hall of Famer Jon Dee Graham) co-founder Sam Jackson, & James Caldwell. Playback Austin hails William as the "voice of his generation." Rock critic Doug Freeman calls the band "ambassadors to the next generation that's already making waves in river city." William has showcased at Folk Alliance International and headlined the Kerrville Fall Festival. Renowned filmmaker Geoff Marslett made a video for the Painted Redstarts' "Curtains Wide," that debuted in Blurt Magazine to coincide with the official release of of the single. Shot entirely on cameras from 1984 to capture the vibe of the heyday years of MTV. Marslett is best known for his films for Mars (2010), Loves Her Gun (2013) and Bubblecraft (2006). A new video for "Mystical Ways" will be released in August. William was featured two years ago in Wired Magazine's Annual "Smart List," the top 50 innovative world changers, that includes Woon-Soon Park (Mayor of Seoul), Brandon Stanton (Humans of New York), Satoshi Nakamoto (founder of Bitcoin) Ben Rattray (founder of Change. org), & James Turrell. William founded the 501(c)3 nonprofit Music4Music that supports communities without music programs.
