Description

Deeply rooted in the powerful rhythms that are part of the afro-Peruvian tradition, Afrodita expands to the universe incorporating the sounds of contemporary world and pop music.

Notes

Afrodita's first CD Amarte, breaks out of the "box" creating a new sound, featuring original songs by Peruvian percussionist and composer Hector Morales whose unique style, rich in twists and turns, succeed in finding extraordinary meaning in ordinary words which equally embrace love, social critique (awareness) and environmental themes seamlessly merging the sounds of Peruvian landos and festejos with afro-Cuban rumbas, cha cha cha’s, R&B, Jazz, Arabic motives and floaty rock and dance digressions.

This collective of seven exceptional musicians lead by Hector Morales on Cajon and Drumset, will take you out of this world from the very first note. Ileana Santamaria, daughter of the legendary “Mongo” Santamaria, with her fresh, intimate and groovy sound and Jean Rohe owner of a captivating heavenly voice take turns at the leading vocals, while Roland Satterwhite (violin), Matt Kanelos (keyboards), Eric

Kurimski (guitar) and Nick Morrison (bass) provide the perfect accompaniment with their soulful melodies and harmonies and finally Hector “Jereto” Ferreira on Congas adds that typical kick of afro-Peruvian music which sets peoples bodies into motion and creates big smiles on everyone’s faces.

Besides Afrodita’s band members many other musicians have also participated of this truly collective effort which have made this recording not just a merge of rhythms and styles but most important an encounter of people coming from all corners of the world including Peru, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Irak, Canada and the United States to celebrate music and give life to Amarte. Special appearances by stellar guests such as Cuba’s sensational singer and percussionist Pedrito Martinez adding all the heat of the dazzling afro-Cuban Rumba, the legendary singer of afro-Peruvian music Mariela Valencia who’s unmistakable contagious style will give you a true taste the music of black Peru and many other stars that this record invites you to listen.
