You feel like waking up from a dream, floating underwater, covered up and safe and sound – this how Agnes Milewski’s new album begins. It’s the calm before the storm, before her music carries you off on a journey, into the deep sea, and into the deapths of the human soul.

Agnes Milewski is far from being just a simple artist. The Polish singer/songwriter who is living in Vienna since her childhood, has a little bit of everything: once she’s the nice girl from next door, next she’s a sensuous woman. For one moment she’s young and naive, in the next she’s grown-up and wise. She isn’t „made“ like so many pop phenomena these days. Agnes Milewski – she’s the one doing it herself. Don’t be misled by her innocent appearance and her crystal clear voice. Don’t be misled by her readily accessible and easy-to-sing-along popsongs.
There’s more than that, much more.
Agnes does her songs on her own, she plays the piano, Agnes herself writes the lyrics of her songs telling stories about the imperfect world we’re living in. And, additionally, she designs her CD Covers on her own and sets the tone in every artistic issue whatsoever.
Her new album „Learn to Swim“ contains 16 new songs about stories life has told her: it’s about love, loss, religion and sex. In all this, „water“ is the golden thread ever-present throughout the whole work.
Musically, Agnes demands high standards from her listeners. Musical styles of the past 100 years are torn apart, twisted and relentlessly assembled.
Viennese waltz meets heavy metal. Breakbeats meet disco, quite frequently within the same song. In cooperation with her producer Michael Hecht, she consciously refrains from using the widely known cliches connected to the „traditional singer/ songwriter“. On the one hand this makes it hard to categorise Agnes Milewski – but on the other hand, this is what makes her unique.

In spring 2009, the artistic concept of the first work „Pretty Boys and Ugly Girls“ was completed by the music video „Falling From Grace“. For this project, Erwin Leder (actor in „Das Boot“, „Schindlers List“ etc.)
was engaged as director and screenwriter – he managed to visualise the musical work in an incredibly thrilling way. For Agnes Milewski, this was a personal watershed which made her finish off what she was used to.
Now she presents her second album „Learn to Swim“, which will be released on December, 4th 2009. The associated single „One God for Me“ will come out soon and is a perfect overture for her brandnew, multi-layered album.

With „Learn to Swim“, Agnes Milewski actually learned to swim in this ocean called „life“, with all its ups and downs.
She freed herself from all constraints which where imposed on her by self-proclaimed music-experts and business professionals in the last few years. She has shown strength and will to make the music suiting her whithout running after trends and temporary fashion. She has shown that there’s definitely more than shallow pop.

That there’s much more than the reflection on the surface of the water.
