ABOUT THE MUSIC

REVIEWS:
- "Yael Acher is a flutist who isn't about faking the funk…her hard-edged Junk Kat Modiano ensemble is run from the kick drum."- Time Out, New York.
- “…Acher raises the excitement level frequently by using overblowing techniques to ignite the collective voices.”- Cadence Magazine, Frank Rubolino, NYC.
-“…inheritance of post-hard-bop is specially original and convincing.” – Jazz Magazine, Thierry Quénum, Paris.
- “Very dense…highly original interaction between organic and non-organic….” – Berlingske Tidende, Kjeld Frandsen. Cph.

The international award winning Israeli/Danish flutist & composer Yael Acher “KAT” Modiano is a resident of New York City, and works with diverse genres of music and multi media.
Modiano has been leading her cutting edge Jazz group in performances, recordings, releases, broadcasting features, and reviews in Europe and USA. Some credits include such venues as the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, BAMcafe, Galapagos in New York City. Copenhagen Jazz House, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Dexter, Rust and Jazz i Malmö in Scandinavia.
Modiano’s fringy format of Progressive Electro-acoustic Jazz exposes a wide variety of pulsating expressions, from structured orchestration to groovy free-style FUNKY tunes in different moods. Its RETRO influence from 60’s / 70’s Jazz and film soundtracks blend with influences from ritualistic nomadic music, progressive Hip Hop, Soul and the French Music concrete- electronic music pioneers.
THE SOUND created here by “KAT” Modiano is a combination of her Flute & Effects with Electronic tracks, supported by pulsating rhythm sections, unusual chord progression, trombone and voice performed here by master artists.
THE ALBUM TITLE originates from visual, philosophical and cultural themes that are a source of great inspiration for the artist:
“KAT”&”MOON” is named after a frame from “Krazy Kat” surreal cartoon strip, created during 1910’s- 40’s by the American cartoon artist George Herriman.
Manna-hata (=Island of Many hills) is the original Native name of Manhattan, and it pays homage to the original inhabitants of this magical urban island.
