Description
Lyrically driven, piano-based pop/rock/jazz. Poignant, fierce, darkly beautiful songs sung by a voice both powerful and sweet.
Notes
Aileen Paron originally came to Seattle for the vibrant theatre scene, but soon found herself doing more songwriting than acting. “I’ve always known performing was my calling. I started writing songs when was a teenager, but the path I originally chose to follow was dancing and musical theatre. It was a comfortable space for me, and I was able to express myself through choreographing and performing in shows. Eventually, I began to realize it wasn’t enough. I had a voice of my own, and I needed to make it heard. I had to make a change. I started focusing on writing again and the floodgates opened. I’ve never looked back.”
She started singing at a young age, but found piano lessons stifling and unmotivating. Still, the piano called to her, and eventually, she listened. "I took, all told, a few years of formal lessons, but I consider myself largely self-taught. I just think I benefit more from following my instincts and my own two ears than from a 'one size fits all' lesson mentality. I'm too impatient for that!"
This year, she released her first CD, "Anonyma". She teamed up with local producer Vincent Gates of Commontone Studio for the release, which also features performances from highly respected local musicians including Mark Guenther, Paul Kemmish, Dylan Rieck, and Ryan Smith. A moody mélange of romance, cynicism and allegory, “Anonyma” delivers darkly beautiful, reflective songs and pulls the listener through a lush soundscape of sophisticated, yet accessible piano pop melodies.
