Weight of the Sun is a group of contrasts. With members hailing from the snow-covered industrial towns of the Northeast to the sparsely populated inland regions of Southern California, the band has roots in experiences that are as deep as they are broad. While most people try to build relationships out of what they share, Weight of the Sun has found its voice in placing its dissonant composition at the forefront.
Shortly after drummer Pete Casellini joined the band that was then known as Chanauk, bassist Rob Jones pulled out his phone to compare the music each was listening to at the time. Between the hundreds of albums each was carrying, not one was shared. This moment does much to define the approach Weight of the Sun takes on its debut album "Commons." The band cites influences ranging from jazz to hardcore, and draws on every one of them to produce its unique take on the twenty-first century rock record.
The band independently released "Commons" in May of 2014 to glowing reviews. With giant guitar tones and melodic into chaotic vocals, this eleven song debut has elicited comparisons from a modern-day Hum to Deftones circa "White Pony." "Commons" has a sound that can not only cross genres but music trends from the past to present. Produced by Matt Murphy (Periphery), the album also features guest vocals from Travis Neal (Divine Heresy, The Bloodline) on "Informants."
Weight of the Sun may have drawn from a wide range of experiences, but every step the band has taken has been with an eye toward the future. They look forward to sharing their work with you.
