Description
To everyone who's ever lost someone precious to them... In memory of my dear sister Becky, who left this earth at the early age of twenty one frozen winter night... This is the music I was given the day before I found out.
Notes
"Too Young For Black" is the album I created in honour of my sister Becky, who passed away at twenty years old. She was a lovely young woman full of life, who left a wake of happiness anywhere she went. Everyone who her life touched loved her, and we will all miss her beyond words. I am thankful that I was priveleged to know her for those short twenty years. Becky, you left too soon. It was a winter's night that you slipped the surly bonds of earth and awoke on the other side to see His face. Even now I can't believe you're gone. It's as if you'll be back any time now from work or from school. As if you just went on a long road trip and will be back in a few days. Your room is full of flowers, and we keep the Christmas lights on as if to welcome you home. As if you're not gone. As if.
You looked lovely in red... So beautiful, even in death. I would give anything to have you back, but I cannot. INstead, I did what I know to do. I made music. And so I dedicate this album to my dear sister Becky, who was really too young for black.
Becky passed away sometime in the night on Thursday, and though I didn't find out till Saturday, Friday afternoon I sat down at my keyboard and recorded some of the most intensely sorrowful music I've ever heard. Ninety minutes later, I had ten tracks ready for an album I didn't set out to make. Only some time late Saturday, when the world started to spin again, albeit slowly, I remembered this music, and finally it made sense. Fourteen days of hiding in the basement later, here we are. I thank you all so much for your support in so many ways, for the hugs, for the kind words, for the prayers, for the shoulders to cry on. Thank you. I thank God for you.
Thank you for encouraging me to record this album. When I played 'Too Young For Black" at the funeral, I had no idea how this would come together, but now here we are...
