Notes

Alfred Lloyd was born in Manchester, Jamaica in a little town called Spaulding. He is the first of six children. He has four surviving siblings. Alfred’s early musical influences include the famous Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and especially Gregory Isaacs. Rather than following an Artiste as in becoming a ‘fan’, Alfred prefers to listen to and buy those songs that sound good or appeal to him. Alfred Lloyd spent his secondary school years boarding at Clarendon College in Chapelton, Jamaica. He was later to do a stint studying business at CAST as the institution was then known. His first published song was entitled ‘unconditionally’. This was recorded by Deborah Glasgow for Gussie Clarke back in 1989. As a youngster then the potential was good as the sky was the limit. He was working with a producer who could not do anything wrong, putting out hit after hit after hit. Alfred later migrated to the USA though and lost that contact with Gussie Clarke. He tried producing stuff on his own but this did not work out the way that he would like at least not until he decided to go back to Jamaica and started to record his music there.

Alfred Lloyd is not a band, group or organization. He is an individual whose thoughts and ideas transcend music and the routine of life. He believes that the word conformity is used to describe lesser mortals who continue to do what is expected of them and who never try to do anything else. He works full time at the moment at a job that he enjoys (rare but true) but sees that as a means to an end and not as an end in itself. He has a never say die attitude that he applies to all aspects of his life. Nowhere can this be seen more than in his musical career to date. He has had to overcome many obstacles over the years but continues to trod on when many others would have (and many may already have) quit and resign themselves to the daily grind to do what they think is expected of them.

Up until this point Alfred writes, performs and produces his own material and while this may change in the future, he is proud of the quality of the material that he has recorded so far. Among his best recorded songs to date, in his estimation, are MAMA and LET’S TALK and SOMEDAY I WILL, songs that he dedicates to his Mother, to all the lovers out there and to all those who dare to dream . He says LETS TALK captures the essence of how to resolve issues that will arise in every relationship.

Alfred Lloyd finds inspiration in the work of the late great Bob Marley. He (the late great Bob) is the only recording act to date who accurately speaks about the future for mankind. In his song ‘Get Up Stand Up, stand up for your rights’ he said “most people think, Great God will come from the sky, take away everything and make everybody feel high… but if you know what life is worth, you will look for yours on Earth”. These powerful words, going against popular belief, is ratified at Psalm 37 verses 9-11, where it talks about the wicked being destroyed and the good being rewarded with unending life on the Land.

At this time, not much is being said about the personal life of Alfred Lloyd because he says that there is not a whole lot to say! Well, you already know what he looks like and more details about him will be published at a later date… Oh, he is now an American with Jamaican Roots and he lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

For the future, Alfred wants to be the first Reggae act to be awarded his Grammy on stage as opposed to backstage and to perform live there for the whole world to see. His aim is to take the music to a level that it has never been before. To become a household name and to be consistently turning out hits so as to have a perennial presence on the billboard charts. In his mind this is a new beginning and just the beginning…
