Notes
The Grammy award winning participant father and son team of Al & Alex Meixner have finally taken it upon themselves to chronicle their original polka and waltz compositions in this "Digitally Yours" series. All of the selections are contained on other recordings - LPs, Cassette Tapes or CDs but are compiled on this series of CDs for archival purposes. Many of these Meixner originals have been recorded and performed by other artists. The use of slimline cases help to make this "Digitally Yours" series of compact discs very affordable.
Vol.1 contains 12 instrumental polkas & waltzes. 11 of the 12 are button box accordion features. Vocal selections composed by Al will be contained on another CD in this series.
Al & Alex have long been recognized as THE premier diatonic button box accordion artists in the United States.
Al (the father), a former Duquesne University Tamburitzan ( a super Eastern European folk music & dance troupe), was a staff musician and arranger at Epcot Center in Walt Disney World, Orlando for eight years. He's played in symphonic orchestras, world music groups, jazz combos and rock bands but his heart belongs to polka, waltz and European folk music. By the way, his college major was string bass.
Alex (the son) has been a musician since age three. He performed with his two sisters in a multinational folk group when he was five years old and recorded his first solo album (where he played at least five different instruments on each track) when he was fouteen. When in middle school he performed (on accordion) in the world's largest concert with Sandy Duncan at Walt Disney World. In high school he performed with the London Symphony Orchestra (on trumpet). As an undergrad at Ithaca College in New York he earned a double bachelor's degree in education and performance. At Penn State University he earned a Master's Degree in trumpet performance (WE ARE - PENN STATE!) while coordinating their jazz combo program. Now he performs with about five different style groups, gives private instructions to students from elementary school age to those in their seventies and he's also the executive director of the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra. You gotta hear this guy to really appreciate his credentials.
