Description

Inspired by a few Jazzy down beat sessions amongst the Klorophorm artists at Fusion Cafe, this one features the collective's take on Trip-Hop. Jazzy electro production contrasts with the mono sampling & Lo-Fi stylings on this intricate and heavy weight EP

Notes

Inspired by Gabe's love of pitched down drums and muddy keys, T.H.I.D. is the label's first Posse cut, and it's turned out quite indulgent again.
Finishing off with a monumaental two part ode to the TRIUMPH over base level impulses from Mo Stax, the album is one for the heads. With floating vocal samples, lots of live beat tapping and liberal use of vintage synths & Mac based keyboards, Klorophorm have come up with their answer to whether of not Trip-Hop can still be relevant. Occasionally challenging and heavy, but generally uplifting and life affirming, this album is was inspired by a generation of production pioneers who injected down beat music with enthusiasm and heart.
To that end, the album kicks off with Tortoise Head's tongue in cheek look at the BRAGGING and self protection us Hip-Hop types are usually guilty of at some point in our careers. Hayato laced up Piano riff without the sound being turned on, just playing silent keys to one of Porl's beats he accidentally came up with a nicely weighty phrase and jammed on it, introducing a few instrument samples along the way, it's got a very earthy feel with the live effects and vocal samples finishing off another two part morphing track.
Then comes 15 MINS WITH GABE hosted by Trippy. A self explanitary title for this three part shape shifter. Beginning with Gabe's eastern orchestra and whimsical harmonies, there are several twists and turns in this mini opera. Changing half way through in to a luscious drum track from Porl which is in turn flipped to the point of unrecognisability in to superman visits Amsterdam. Quite a journey.
The intensity is turned down for CHEAP, a solo track by Massive Ego which is very simply panned and mastered to reflect the singular theme of the track. The underlying honesty in people, which will keep nagging until you address it's message.
Following what some might consider to be musical fudge, is ELEGANCE is another track from the vaults. We've always loved it, but just couldn't find it a home for this Dr Moctagen track. The story told by the rhodes & percussion makes this one a perfect finisher for back to mine sessions. Putting to bed some of the paranoia on earlier tracks and reminding us that good things come to those who persevere.
FRUDGE was unconciously inspired by years of ingesting Mr Len, Solesides & Mo-Wax soundistics. Hayato and Porl rolled one up with Less Cheeba and got muddy, Using a filthy clav sample for the bass and pitch reverbing the drums to match, this one is features some beautiful use of instrumental samples but still is not for the feint hearted or easily affected among us.
Things get easier in LIME6400. by Beta. This being the origional solo track envisaged by Porl until he, Simon and Kyron revisited it for Unending Quest on the Mosaic project. Inspired simply by Porl's love of Limes and Jazz.
