Description

"Crusaders" is a visceral culmination of 18 months' observations on Armenian society, covering topics such as electoral fraud, unsustainable energy policy, emigration, corruption, educational reform, and political interference in music.

Notes

Following the release of their début album "Bydand" in 2012, An Gordonach! had been wanting to move away from a purely musical perspective and incorporate social commentary into the creative process, started by the release of the "Zaruhi" EP in late 2013. "Crusaders" is the culmination of 18 months' observations on Armenian society, covering topics such as electoral fraud (5000), unsustainable energy policy (Taitale), emigration (Sevansjöodjuret), corruption and opaque governance (Leviathan), educational reform (Fear...), and political interference in rock music (Disassociation). It also reflects the lead singer's opposition to Scottish independence (Brave Nae Mair). Lulling the listener into a false sense of security with a soothing second collaboration with Iranian electronic artist Assadook, the music immediately shifts to a raw, visceral and dirty sound to match the blisteringly critical social commentary, aided on occasion by friends (and the extremely talented Armenian metal band) Vordan Karmir. Intended to provoke thought among Armenian youth and encourage other Armenian bands to follow An Gordonach!'s lead rather than be a musical masterwork, the EP weaves influences as wide as Queens of the Stone Age, Strung Out, The Sex Pistols, Muse, Deftones, System of a Down and Idlewild into their own sound to make an arresting, memorable impression.
