October 5, 2003 - When someone mentions the words classical music, most people think of Bach, or Beethoven. Not so in the case of a composer from Denmark that I would like to introduce you to. His name is Attila Kovacs, and he brings to you a whole new way of defining classical.
His genius does not stop with his abilty to compose music however, he is also a gifted musician as well. Take those two quality ingredients, then blend in a beautiful singing voice, and you have Attila Kovacs. There is no accurate way to classify Attila's composer style, but I can sum it up with three words "from the heart".
Attila is one of those people who can present you with songs that will have you saying "I can relate to just how he feels" Combining pop with classical is not an easy task by any means, but Attila seems to do have done just that with almost no effort. His song "I Hope You Still Know" speaks the words we all have wanted to say to the one that went away, and his song "Wish I Could Stay In My Dream" is someplace we all wish we could stay at times. Close your eyes, and I can assure you he can take you back to that very dream.

Attila's latest accomplishment named "Holiday" is at the level of a miracle. I have not for a very long time, heard a song that can cure whatever has got you down like Holliday can. This one, if no other, I truly suggest you should download. Believe me when I tell you it is not just another happy song, it is soothing therapy for your heart, and for your mind. Attila wrote me, and told me he was honored to be a part of On-Nation. In my opinion, we are the ones honored that he has joined us.

On-Nation Weekly Free Press, Music Review By Michael Paynter

There is a unifying theme to your CD that we loved! The whole
CD has a feeling of constant forward motion, and how important
that is in life. In that way, your music almost becomes inspirational.
There are several important messages that people could use to be
happier in their daily lives. Much of your material is definite
"feel-good" music. The tone is optimistic that if you know what
you want and where you are going, you can achieve your goals.
Much of your music is also "get-up-and-groove" music. While
revieweing, some of us had an irresistible urge to get up off of
our chairs and dance. It is obvious that YOU enjoy making
music that people will enjoy listening to.
Your music is mature. It is fun and upbeat, but also has a serious
soulful side that shows some life experience. It seems that you
bring a lot of yourself to your music, and that is almost always
the best music on the market. We were very impressed by the
fact that you wrote all your own lyrics and music. You have a
great talent that should be on display to as many people as you
can get it to!
You take chances in your music. You incorporate many genres,
styles, and sounds, ranging from 70's easy listening, to latin!
We found this diversity very interesting! You don't limit yourself,
and that giv es your CD unpredictability. We never knew what
to expect next!

On the whole, your CD was one of the most unique and interesting
we have heard in a long time. The majority of our clientele,
realistically, is from North America, so we always love receiving
overseas artists, and are in fact doing several targeted promotions
to reach more of that ma rket. You are a definite stand-out among
many of the European submissions we have received.
We would call much of your stuff "mood music". You are excellent
at setting the mood of your song in the introduction. From there,
you are able to thematically the listener where you want them to go.
We really like how your songs aim to be m ore than a song, they aim
to be what they are trying to say! You create a place that the listener
can go to in his/her mind. Few singer/songwriters are effective at this
technique, but you are one of them!
The title of your CD is perfect, as it relates to the music itself, and it
also tells the listener what you are trying to accomplish with your
music! Very impressive!

Attila Kovacs, a pop singer songwriter and performer has the honor
of being our first international submission. Denmark was the last
place I thought I'd get a tape from (no... perhaps Guam), but it has
turned out to be a fun and exciting listen. It all started with the Internet.
Attila found me somewhere out here and offered to send a tape for
critique before his album is pressed on CD. He really wasn't looking
for a review to be published. I eventually got his stuff and decided
it was worthy of a review.

Oh What a Night would have been a much better choice for an opener.
I think this was my favorite. It has a completely danceable groove,
tasteful brass accompaniment and infectious harmonies that made my
head turn when I first heard them.... it's still goin g in my head (those
that know me know that is a good sign.)
Also a good candidate for an opener would be the energized
Wouldn't It Be So Good. I liked the lyrics here. Just a sample:

Working all day or all the nights
Your boss decides
You're on the production line
Apparatus, generator
Giant Machines
Computer tells you who you are

The song proceeds to dream about getting above the humdrum of life
and work and looking at the positive side. It's a song about getting
away from it all, but in a way it's also about coming home. I thought
this song had elements of The Cure in it.
Shine Your Love, a slow ballad, wasn't my favorite song, but the flute
solo was very appropriate. In fact, Attila's flute playing is reminiscent
of some of the mellow music to come out of Jethro Tull, one of my
favorite groups.
Little Bird is a very fun song. I would absolutely love to see this song
covered by Gloria Estefan. However, I think there is tremendous
commercial potential for this song in the right market, with the right
artist. Little Bird could be a feather in the cap for Attila if he could get
it recorded by an international. multi-platinum act.
Even though some songs are different stylistically and hold the listener's
interest, there is a signature sound present here. Attila's vocal style is a
little different and may lack mainstream appeal, but overall I enjoyed his
singing.
In many ways Attila's music is reminiscent of some of the better stuff
to come out of the 80s. I'm personally a fan of the 80s, and had a good
time with these songs. Others might feel the same way. This album has
had airplay in Denmark and abroad. The challenge for Attila will be to
find the segment of the population - in whatever country he chooses -
who has a liking for melodic, intelligent pop.
And if they don't like his pop, Attila has a backup plan. "Hungarian Dawn"
is a new-age, modern classical collection of songs that has already been
released on CD. While I haven't heard this album, I'm sure it is very
interesting and well produced. You can find both of his albums via his
web site below. Of his next endeavor, Attila says, "For the third album,
I try to make my music more simple." Simple or complex, I wish him luck.

Hello Atilla, I'm sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you.
I did receive the CD and have listened to it.. in fact I'm going to go put
it on again... oh yes... I remember now... I like it. This sound could
come back too in the U.S.

Your music is very soothing and melodic. In any case I'm very happy for
you. You have found a lovely vibe. I like this music, I really do. Keep in
touch and maybe we'll add you. But anyway, I hope you know music is
about the enjoyment of the proc ess, about your happiness and the
satisfaction you, your players, friends and family get out of it...Best
wishes to you Attila and many thanks for your submission. Sincerely,

Hey...checked out the disc today and I love it! I don't know who you
listen to you it reminds me a lot of Men Without Hats and English
Beat. This is just my opinion, and please take it that way

I think " Oh What A Night," or "It's A Holiday" would go over
better on the disc as there is a lot of upbeat stuff on it and I don't
want people to overlook your part because it is a little slower. I also
really like "Wouldn't it be so Good." On a lot of these songs it sounds
as if you have a synth hooked up to your guitar...that or else the mixing
between the guitar and keyboard is incredible.

I checkout your songs, and they are fantastic. I'm happy to promote your
music on my website. The internet is such a great tool for getting music
heard all over the world.

This time, he switched ever to modern popmusik. And we can say, he understands
to focus on genre. The result has been a string of hooks, stylish, all sang good,
arranged inventive.

Another demo gathered from the Internet, this time from the happy confines
of Denmark. The style is sort of light & poppy & ranges from the opener
"It's A Holiday, which I think was my favourite from the whole album.
Bands reading this in Attila's general neighbourhood could do worse than
to visit him, as the production quality is excellent. If you want to hear some
very competent Euro stuff (not disco), then get in touch with Attila to hear
his demo.
