Notes
After a long hiatus from playing music together, Chris and Josh got back together for a couple of gigs in February 2013. It had been nearly 4 years since they’d last played together, but the music that came out sounded more like they’d only been apart a week or so. This led them to the decision to get back in the studio and capture some more of their tunes on record. The project seemed like a long shot and kept getting delayed as complications arose. But finally in August 2013 they met up in Nashville and laid down 13 original tracks. They wanted to record these tracks with the sound of a full band, so Chris recruited Lori Quillen (fiddle) and Charles Gaston (upright bass) from Chattanooga (they also currently play with Chris in the band Home Made Machine), while Josh recruited Mr. Henok Wondem (keys) and Nate Roy (baritone vocals). Josh’s good friend and sound engineer, Andy Roy (A-Roy Audio Productions) recorded, mixed and mastered the album.
Leading up to the recording session, the name of the album hadn't been decided upon, although there were ideas floating around, some good and some not so appropriate. But after hearing the music as a full band, Chris said, “Man, this is how it should be.” Alas, the album title “How It Should Be” was born. Chris and Josh have expressed many thanks to Lori, Charles, Henok, Nate and Andy for adding their talents to the Two Bits songs. Most of the tunes are originals that Two Bits used to perform back in their Fort Collins heyday, but there are a few new ones for the fans also. From an individual musician standpoint, some of these songs Chris wrote over a decade ago; Josh wrote two of them over half his life ago. “Even then I had visions of how they should sound and it was deeply fulfilling to finally hear them that way.” – Josh Price. “For so long me and Josh played these songs as the Two Bits trio, or even duo, just dying to have a full backing band all the while. We knew in our hearts and minds that it would sound sweet; we had no idea just how good it would be.”
Two Bits a Gander is:
Chris LeCroy - Vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin
Josh Price - Vocals, guitar, kazoo, fizzy whistle
Lori Quillen - Fiddle, vocals on The End
Henok Wondem - Piano
Charles Gaston - Upright Bass
Nate Roy - Vocals on The End
