A limit is something that restricts someone, be it physically or mentally, and cities definitely have that effect on many people. For some the busy atmosphere and constant activity can drag them down. Others thrive on it though, and many feed off this energy to accomplish great things, and overcome their inner limits. The music itself is very thoughtful, slow, and meditative. The hip-hop elements are clear, but these musicians incorporate jazz, electronic, ambient, and other kinds of music to create a breathtaking sonic mosaic. These are not beats, they are pieces of music.

The title, “City Limits,” can have many different interpretations. Obviously the city limits are the boundaries of an urban area, and Twigg & Stone are heavily influenced by urban genres such as hip-hop. However these words can take on deeper meanings when one contemplates them.

Twigg & Stone are a pair of Ottawa musicians that came together in 2007 to push the boundaries of hip-hop production. Twigg, (Christopher Bull), and Stone, (Chester Hansen), met while they were both in a music program at one of Canada’s foremost arts high schools. They began to make beats, and discovered that their two extremely different musical minds produced a very unique sound. They both listened to all types of music, especially jazz and funk/soul, and heavily incorporated this into their music. Twigg was also a very skilled DJ, and Stone a jazz bass player. They both knew how to play piano as well, which added another special layer to everything. Since day one, they have made music because they love to, and that is never going to change.
