Description
Beautiful country tinged folk songs about love and loss with understated, elegant production – bushes, Hammond organ and Silvertone guitar give this record a classic but fresh sound.
Notes
Hemisphere is the second full length release of Autumnal.
Singer songwriter Richard Besley has been joined by a group of Melbourne’s A-list musicians to create this refined and exquisite record. It follows the acclaimed 2007 debut Your Elfin Foot, loved for its lush folk arrangements and heart-warming lyrics.
Wez Prictor (Mick Harvey) who mastered Your Elfin Foot has moved into the producer’s seat for Hemisphere. He brings an understated elegance to Besley’s tender, reflective songs about love and loss. Arrangements are pared back to only what is essential to the emotional core of the songs – brushes, Hammond and Silvertone guitar feature. The result is a record of warmth and honesty.
Mixed by David McCluney (Nick Cave) at Altantis it features the dream rhythm section of Dave Beck (Keb Mo) on drums and Joe Creighton (Ray Charles) on bass.
RECOMMENDED TRACKS : Hemisphere, Peace of Mind, Big Wind, Princess
“Going to live this life in an easy way, going to let the moments press upon me…” sets the gentle, lilting tone of Hemisphere.
Peace of Mind lifts the tempo with a catchy pop groove.
The record builds to the dramatic Big Wind – “let the forces of nature take you where they will..” featuring Justin Bradey’s (Things of Stone and Wood) wailing, distorted harmonica.
Ambient beats in Princess closes out the record and tells a romantic story of regret.
