If you are familiar with the Lancaster, Pa. music scene, there’s a chance you may have heard of up-and-coming musician Justin Angelo.
Angelo blends folk and blues guitar with brilliantly crafted lyrics that poetically illustrate his deep sense of passion, emotion and consciousness. Every performance is a unique occasion. Some nights, you may find him playing solo, with nothing but his ring-covered fingers intricately strumming away at his acoustic guitar as his soulful voice echoes through the room.
Other nights, you may find him jamming alongside other musicians and exploring new opportunities at various open mics, Catch Angelo alone with his guitar, and he may even serenade you with an alluring improvisation on the spot. You never know what to expect, but one thing is certain—Angelo never fails to put his heart and soul into every performance.
Aside from writing music and playing one or more shows just about every weekend, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter has also been very busy at work in the studio for months putting together his albums from his song "database" he's created over the past 23 years.

“I spent a week in New York taking classes to learn ProTools (audio production software). I’d wake up at 5 in the morning and walk to class. By the time I walked back to where I was staying, it would be 1 a.m., and then I’d get up in the morning and do it all over again.”
That week in New York changed Angelo’s life, giving him the skills he needed to be able to write, record, mix and produce his own music at home. He attended the ProMedia training school in New York City two years ago and has since been a certified ProTools audio engineer.
Although Angelo is just now stepping foot into the record industry with his debut album, he has had a substantial relationship with music all of his life.
“I grew up listening to the Eagles and Jim Croce, and my father was a songwriter, so I saw him do a lot of writing.”

By the time Angelo was in 9th grade, he was discovering how to use his voice and that he had the ability to sing and play guitar.
“I tried to do chorus when I was in middle school. I wanted to be a Soprano, but they told me I had too low of a voice.” That isn’t the case now—Angelo can sing in at least 3 different octaves—significantly wider of a range than the average person.
“One day, I was hanging out with my friend, Taylor, and he heard me sing ‘Facedown’ by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus,” Angelo said.
After receiving positive feedback from his friend, Angelo realized that day that he could sing and that he indeed wanted to do something with music. He was also learning the foundations for composing music as he began learning to play guitar in a class offered at his high school.
Angelo continued to take guitar lessons for the next four years, greatly improving his ability to write as well as improvise on guitar. He was taught by Trey Alexander, a skilled guitarist who has gained a lot of respect in the music community for his hard work and accomplishments, including winning the title of Guitar Hero Champion in 2006.
As Angelo began to explore music to greater depths, he was soon ready to play in his first band. He joined the death metal group Shatter the Façade during his sophomore year. The group
recorded with Carson Slovak of Atrium Audio (Lancaster), who has worked with bands such as August Burns Red, This or the Apocalypse and Texas in July. Angelo became a prevalent asset to the group as the lead vocalist and writer for the guitarist, but he parted ways with the band about a year later.
Experimenting with different styles is essential to finding yourself as a musician, and at that point in his life, Angelo was ready to try something new. He traded his electric guitar for the acoustic and returned to his roots to further explore folk music.
“When I was 17 I began playing acoustic music with a friend, Kyle, the first person I had collaborated with besides my dad.”
Angelo and his friend played together for a while, and together they learned how to collaborate and share their love of music with others. The two young men eventually went their separate ways. While Kyle went on to join a rock band, Angelo continued to work hard at his craft that we know him for today.
Over the years, the singer-songwriter has spent a great deal of time developing his personal style, and at just 22, he already has an impressive portfolio of original music and recording projects that he has produced himself. He continues to collaborate with other musicians, and he has earned a remarkable reputation for his ability to deliver an engaging and unforgettable experience every time. Angelo is well on his way to a successful career in music, and his dedication and passion for his work will take him very far.
