Description

Aggressive female driven rock, with strong raging hooks, haunting melodies, and powerful lyrics inside great vocals and harmonies. The second of three indie albums by U.H., featuring the well known acoustic cover of Linkin Park's "One Step Closer."

Notes

Unruly Helga is a band from LA that makes music. Blatant, liberated, disquieting, revealing, pure, earnest, dynamic HONEST music. They’ve been autonomous and on their own since 1997 when lead singer/songwriter Deena Kamm started writing and performing songs. She soon met up with Deb Buchanan (guitar), Yukihide (YT) Takiyama (Bass), and long time friend from previous bands, Scott Mundy (drums). Album Co-producer Curt Piar makes several band appearances and is often considered the “only lead guitarist” in the band. LA drummer Perry Ostrin, who has also provided the band with his “good feel” drumming at live performances and on several tracks from “No Alternative”, is still considered an important part of the band.

Using only instincts and the help of Curt Piar’s small indie label, Deena Kamm (AKA Unruly Helga) plunged into the music business in 1997 and began recording her first full length album titled "Story Of A Girl". The debut album featured 12 original songs about empowerment, independence, and affliction. The band joined up after the record was done and they promoted the album to thousands of new fans on the West Coast while touring as the opening act for Pat Benatar's Summer Tour 2000.

Sophomore follow up CD, "No Alternative", was released in 2000 and over the last several years had steadily built a foundation of raves and reviews about the 10 original songs, all penned by Deena and the band. It is also home to the successful acoustic single "One Step Closer", a Linkin Park cover that has been played in several major Alternative-Rock radio markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit and Washington DC.

Unruly Helga went on to record a third, self titled, album and is currently in the beginning stages of pre-production on the fourth record. They continue to thrive and grow in a business known for its stifling contracts, million dollar faux-pas, and artistic frustrations, avoiding all of it. How? They love what they do, they’re good at it, and they believe that if you work hard, have integrity, and enjoy what you do and who you do it with, you will be acknowledged and rewarded for it. It's not always about luck, who you know, and being in the right place at the right time…

Sometimes it's just about the music.
