Description
Groundbreaking pioneering EBM the way it was meant to sound. Industrial strength early 90’s EBM band with clear cut New German Wave minimalist influences. Somewhere between DAF, Tommi Stumpff, Die Gesunden. Very catchy hits with German lyrics and memorabl
Notes
The band first began in 1988, by David Rout. Andreas Gregor (A seven year veteran of Digital Poodle.) joined on vocals and keyboards a year later.
They had released their first two albums on cassette only. Their third release was a six-song cassette entitled "Aktivierung". Two songs from the cassette were released on the "Metro Tekno" compilation CD by San Francisco based Silent Records in 1992. !Bang Elektronika released their first full length CD titled "Aktivierung" on Germany's Hyperium label in late 1993 to great success. The disc was often compared to a cross between DAF and And One. Stephan from Dependent Records once said that the track "Grosstad Melodie" signified the birth of Darkwave, influencing the likes of VNV Nation. The title track was remixed by T.O.Y., having been fans of the band for years.
After a hiatus due to legal reasons, the band independently released "This Heaven". By this time the line-up had changed to include Paul Jaworski on keyboards, and Monique Albert, a powerful and classically trained vocalist formerly of Voice Industrie. The album enjoyed excellent reviews from both the public and music world and has enjoyed airplay within clubs in the cities of Toronto and Edmonton, as well as on many play lists from Australia, Germany, Spain, the US and Israel.
In 2004 !Bang Elektronika were busy hitting the clubs in support of the "Struktur" collection. That year the Toronto based band recently opened for Germany's Das Ich as well as Ayria at EBM Fest. Other past shows have included !Bang Elektronika in their line-up with Canadian veterans The Spoons, Rational Youth and Images In Vogue, and darkwave/synthpop band Epsilon Minus. Sadly the support and encouragement from fellow musicians like VNV Nation, Icon of Coil, Assemblage 23, TOY, as well as the countless fans that came to the shows did not translate into a record deal. After 16 years, the band called it a day, leaving a new album (Radio Aktivity) as
well as the "Struktur" collection unfinished.
Best regards,
Andreas Gregor
