Biography
Born out of a love for music, The Better Half has risen from a group of friends playing in a basement, to a rising star in the Philadelphia music scene. Their music can best be described as a mixture between the raw guitar and drum driven sound of the Foo Fighters and the memorable style of some of the more popular Nickelback songs. Formed a little under a year ago, the band puts a huge emphasis on writing dynamic, layered songs that will stick in your head long after the song is finished.
Starting out as a local cover band playing bars in the South Jersey area under the name Outshine, Ray Milanese (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Patrick Keating (Drums), and Caleb Wahrenberger (Bass, Vocals) joined up with guitarist Ronnie Howell to form The Better Half in mid 2008. Since then, the band has spent their time honing their writing style that now defines The Better Half, perfecting their live performances, and growing their fan base. Having headlined such places as Doc Watson's, The Northstar, The Khyber, and The Trocadero, the band has built a loyal fan base in the Philadelphia/ South Jersey area.
While always striving to capture their own sound, The Better Half draws influences from many bands such as Pearl Jam, Shinedown, Tom Petty, Gin Blossoms, The Beatles, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and Nickelback. The band's musical style reflects their diverse influences and produces music that ranges from a hard rock style on songs such as "Face Down" and "Running on Empty" to a more rock and pop style on songs such as "Till there was you."
Currently in the studio finishing their debut album, the band has put together their first EP with a collection of 4 songs that represents The Better Half.
