Description
Improvised ambient, new age, space music performed on trombone and voice with lots of looping and electronics.
Notes
This is an album that was recorded mostly in the winter 2004 when I was living in a remote town in Japan. To get through the cold winter months (without indoor central heating), I couped myself up in one of my rooms with my trombone, some electronic hardware, and a pair of headphones.
Everything here is improvised, one-take tracks with no overdubs. For the last 15 years or so, I've been interested in exploring alternative avenues for the trombone besides the classical and jazz sounds which a lot of great players have fought to develop. The range and timbre of the trombone lends itself very well to new age, space sounds if you work with it enough (and have a technical bent to get into electronic music). While most other trombone players tend to focus on speed, range, loud playing, in the back of my mind for 15 years, all I've been able to think is, "Shhh.... quiet."
