Description
Slightly dark, slightly strange, slightly poppy, slightly noisy, very electronic with no hip hop or soul influence. Carries on from where the first album left off.
Notes
Two and a half years since the first eponymous album comes Pocket Magnetic 2: Uncool and Calculated. Meaning, P Magnetic knows just what he's doing even if you don't like what he's doing. He's too long in the tooth to care about public opinion... however, you'd be stupid not to be sold on his vision of how it should be!
Moving Dots- with a sequence powerful enough to make all Moebius and Plank fans drool.
Up Against The Wall- sparse, controlled, P. Magnetic's wish list, sing along to it with your own list.
You Don't Have To Know- electronic vocoded pop heaven. Sweet melodies for those scared of the dark.
Dig My Fur- mid paced beauty, deep vocoder, Foxx-like sweeps, for all Steve McQueen fans.
I Can't Believe It's Not Analogue!- cheerful, simple Harmonia-like melody before opening into motorik persistance. Is it analogue or not? If it isn't, how does he do it?
Harmonator- Shimmering krautrock experimentalism morphing into empty, pulsing gorgeousness.
Riots In The Motor City- full on ear slaughter with the best electronic rock drummer you'll hear this year. Punk electronica.
Rite Of Passage- scary Coptic Christian drones, but no, don't be scared, because P has tempered it with a lush melodic accompaniment. Close your eyes; you could be in the desert with your camel and a plate of dates.
Well, with that write up I guess I'll have to go and play the cd again. If you love your electronics pure with a beat and melodies, do yourself (and Pocket Magnetic) a favour and buy, buy, buy!
