Description

A band that can best be described as a weird version of REM with a little more alternative spin.

Notes

Brian Hoover - Guitar and Vocals
Brian Hoover was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania and moved to Utah when he accepted a teaching position at Southern Utah University in 1995, where he teaches Painting and Printmaking today.
Brian’s second creative passion has always been music. He started writing songs about the same time he picked up the guitar at 17. He approaches music and song writing in a similar way that he approaches painting: the works are often surreal, layered in meaning, and a little on the weird side. Inspired by artists such as Syd Barrett, Susan Vega and the Tear Garden - words, word combinations and creating mental pictures are often more important to him than a straight forward message in a song. Brian has never received any formal training in music and up till recently, recording his own music on primitive multi-tracks was his only outlet for this compulsion.

In 2004 he joined with Cedar City’s “Weathercock”, a band driven by an angst-ridden social misfit poet and her husband who played drums. He left the band before they ever performed, but was inspired by her songwriting and her courage to get up on stage and bare it all. So in 2005 he purchased a Fostex MR-8 digital recorder and by 2007 he finished a CD he titled “All 12”. The album was heavy on experimental, psychedelic and a strange combination of country and surf.

Missing the camaraderie and the collaborative aspect of playing in a band, in 2008 Brian responded to a Myspace site called “Wookie Inferno”. The project was the brainchild of Chuck Triplett and was intended to be an experimental collaborative project involving many musicians in the Cedar City area. Shawn Owens joined the project and it eventually became the Band in its current incarnation: “Bottled Monkey”. The band currently is a three-piece, but retains some of the collaborative aspect of the Wookie Inferno project in that many musicians from the Cedar City area have participated in the recording of their first album- “Sing No Evil”.

Dennis Green - Drums and Background Vocals

At the age of twelve, the term 'pick up sticks' had a completly different meaning to Dennis. The drums were an instant passion and his love of being a musician transcended his musical connection to a new level.

Growing up in a house of classic rocking sisters (four of them!) Dennis was exposed to the intense power of attraction that live music pulsed through his life. Early and obvious influences include Keith Moon, Phil Rudd and John Bonham. Not to be one tracked, his influences also include Iron Maiden, Dishwalla, BTO, the 80's metal scene and D.R.I. to name a few. Dennis' musical character is built on a foundation of detail and dedication; peppered with his humor and creativity, Dennis is a guy to call for a good time.

Dennis is also the bands video editor and resident computer geek.

Chuck Triplett - Bass and Latex Mask

Chuck Triplett was born in Fairfield, California. He was quickly relocated to Caliente, Nevada where he did most of his growing up. I guess you could argue that he is not grown up and perhaps Caliente was just where he lived during his cognitive years. He is a 25 year retired military veteran and currently works as a policeman, without the mask.

Chuck has been passionate about music since about the 8th grade when his good friend Jeremy took him to Sears to order a bass. He has played in bands ever since. He has been recording music and has been recording himself and others since the early 90’s. He has recorded full length albums for his own bands OMV, Raven and the Boneman and Say What.

Of the bands he has played in, the most well known was the band Sanity’s Edge out of Germany. They recorded a CD for a record label there that released after the band broke up because of the Berlin Wall coming down. The album is still available from eMpty Records on cassette.

In 2008 Chuck bought equipment to open his own demo studio and has recorded several acts to this point, including Bottled Monkey’s debut album Sing No Evil. Bottled Monkey started as a collaborative effort between Chuck and Brain Hoover, with Shawn Owens on drums. Chuck and Shawn became friends while playing in the band Mason’s Jar of Jam and eventually came together to help form Bottled Monkey. In 2011 Shawn was replaced on drums by Dennis Green. Dennis has brought a new energy and dedication to the band that has taken the band to even more exciting places.
