An upbeat, fun album from soulful singer songwriter, Billy Buchanan, and his band Free Avenue.
Notes
Bio
A soulful singer songwriter, Billy Buchanan is as comfortable entertaining a crowd with just his voice and acoustic guitar as he is with his band, Free Avenue, behind him. He uses humor and wit to communicate to his audiences, keeping them fully engaged during his performances. In Buchanan’s music, you can hear the influence of such diverse artists such as John Mayer, Otis Redding, James Taylor, Ben Harper, Van Morrison, Jason Mraz, Sam Cooke, Bill Withers, and Ray Lamontagne, to name a few.
Buchanan, a St. Augustine, Florida resident, describes his music as a blend of “concrete and dirt". He explains, “I was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, but my family was originally from Georgia, and brought a lot of that culture with them. I would hear pop, hip-hop, and dance music on the street; but at home, and at my grandparents' houses, I would hear soul, gospel, and country. It all rubbed off on me".
A consummate professional, Buchanan has shared the stage with some amazing artists; including, Shawn Mullins, G. Love and Special Sauce, Funky Meters, Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland), David Ryan Harris (John Mayer’s guitarist), Alice In Chains, KC and The Sunshine Band, and Morris Day and The Time, to name a few. Billy Buchanan’s latest album, Hold On, is available at most digital music retailers. Billy Buchanan & Free Avenue release their forthcoming album, The Music Man, in November 2010. Recently, Buchanan was written up in Music Connection Magazine, Folio Weekly, I Want A Buzz Magazine, The St. Augustine Record, Ocala Star Banner, and The Ponte Vedra Recorder.
Reviews
“You can always tell when someone has the music in them. It doesn’t feel forced and it flows out naturally like a breeze. Billy Buchanan’s music is that breeze; you can feel it with every lyric that comes out of his mouth. Billy is the real deal, and I’m surprised he hasn’t broken into the next level yet.” – I Want A Buzz Magazine
“Buchanan is a Florida based street corner philosopher who’s logged lots of live gigs, and his recording ably conveys his vocal chops and ability to craft a catchy number. Even when he casts a sad eye on our times (Hold On), he soothes us with reassuring tones.” – Music Connection Magazine
"Buchanan's music is family friendly, even positive and uplifting." – Ocala Star Banner
"His family of musicians, originally from Georgia, encouraged him as a child, influencing him with their southern roots." – Folio Weekly
