Secret Life is a collection of Peter Grenader's works over a ten year period beginning in 2002. The album’s name is an abbreviation of the title track The Secret Life of Semiconductors.
There are numerous technologies in play within the works presented - those utilizing digital instruments, those using purely analog synthesizers and those which incorporate a mixture of both. Electrolux was composed entirely on digital machines for the sounding instruments yet incorporate heavy use of analog synthesizers as a controlling medium. The Ascent Into Light combines digital, sampling and analog instruments, while The Secret Life of Semiconductors and Je Suis Anonyme were realized entirely on a Plan B modular synthesizer.
Thanks are extended to Wendy Carlos, Loren Norell, Ms. Alex Shapiro, Barry Schrader, Steve Roach and Thighpaulsandra for their assistance, encouragement and art.
