Description
A fusion of many musical styles. Though primarily based upon the modern jazz tradition, the music is spiced up with funky grooves, latin rhythms and hints of pop and rock.
Notes
Fusion quartet BREI is guitarist Bram Huygen, keyboard player Ibo van Leur, bass player Marco Oonincx and drummer Egbert van Gruythuyzen.
In the 1980'ies Bram and Egbert started to explore jazz together. They played a lot with many different groups. During this period they also started experimenting with their own music. You could say that the sound of BREI was born then.
Years later bass player Robert Hermans asked Bram is he wanted to start a band together. Not before long Egbert joined them. At first they played jazz and fusion covers with horns and vocals, but after a while the need to play their own music grew stronger and stronger. Bram, Egbert and Robert decided to form a smaller group with their own music. BREI was born! What was missing was another player, their music simply asked for a fourth voice! They tried out a couple of players but it wasn't until Ibo van Leur joined the group that their search was over. The quartet passionately started playing and working on new material until, a couple of years later, Robert decided to leave. Fortunately there are some beautiful recordings with Robert, one of them (ABC) is included on this album. After Robert had left they tried out several bass players. Recently Marco Oonincx joined the band, and since then BREI feels complete again. The new group sounds better then ever! Enjoy the cd!
