Description
The genre-bending debut from this experimental rock trio fuses explosive wall-of-sound guitar loops with flashes of jazz, vocal hooks, synth textures, meta-fictional lyricism, and more.
Notes
"Last Rites of a Living Legend" is the debut album from Washington, DC's experimental rock upstarts Cartoon Weapons. Recorded and subsequently re-recorded numerous times over the course of a year, the record is a true testament to the lengths bands sometimes must go to retain their vision and their DIY aesthetic. Recorded in bedrooms and basements and in secret weekends at UMD's WMUC college radio station, even the recording process was a journey for the band. Produced/mixed/mastered by bassist/keyboardist/vocalist Zack Be, the record is 100% the effort of Cartoon Weapons alone from top to bottom.
"Last Rites of a Living Legend" exposes the relationship between our capacities for empathy and apathy. One night, during a practice, the band got word of a deadly car accident just up the road. We asked ourselves: "Should we care? Are we obligated?" Over 9 tracks, "Last Rites of a Living Legend" explores this event and it's affect on the band, as well it's wider-reaching consequences.
Formed in 2014, Cartoon Weapons is comprised of Garrett Gleason (guitar, live looping, vocals), Zack Be (bass, keys, vocals), and William Wadsworth (drums/percussion). The group formed in the ashes of the players' college projects, forging ahead with one goal in mind: to leap the boundaries of what a trio of musicians can do on stage.
Please enjoy your listening experience, and let Cartoon Weapons know if you do!
Garrett Gleason: guitars, live loops, vocals
Zack Be: bass, keys, vocals
William Wadsworth: drums, percussion
Production/mixing/mastering: Zack Be
Sound Engineering: Zack Be, William Wadsworth, Trevor Nierendorf (2,3,4,)
