Notes
One listen to BW and you know that this band has roots that reach deep into a rich and fertile musical tradition. From the first notes their music leads you to the point where old style R&B and pop rock meet and flirt with gospel and country.
"Dylan, Springsteen, J.J. Cale, Clapton, The Band and The Beatles, the music of all those wonderful bands was the soundtrack of our youth, it's almost as if it has been etched in our DNA. Their warmth and in-your-face emotions haven't lost any of their strength and we want to show that even to this day it has the same effect."
Every listener knows the stories BW sings about all too well, at least those who have something to look back to: wistfulness, farewell, desire and regret for chances lost. But their music offers hope and warmth and looks ahead, along the endless highway we all travel, to the morning gold.
In the summer of 2012, almost ten years after they disbanded their first band Toendra, the two brothers Fritz (Trezmil, Iza) locked themselves in a remote chalet in the Belgian Ardennes with the intention to finally confine to tape the songs they had written since then. The results encouraged them to form a new band with Horny Dereck (Blind Horny Toads), Pete Wiggins and Desmond Of Weddinburgh (The Love Compartment) and Lenoir Lunettes (Starcheck).
Their EP "What You Hear Is What You Get" was recorded in one weekend at the Sugerbeat studio. To illustrate their joy in playing music all songs were recorded live in one take, overdubbing only the backing vocals.
Bourdon Willie are:
Bald Willie B. Fritz: lead vocals, harp / Coca Sam Fritz: lead guitar, backing vocals / Horny Dereck: guitar, backing vocals / Lenoir Lunettes: keyboards, backing vocals / Pete Wiggins: bass, backing vocals / Sir Desmond Of Weddinburgh: drums, percussion
