Description
New Jersey 80's AOR
Notes
Boystown was an American Rock N' Roll band from Ridgefield, New Jersey. The band built a following in the 1980's playing live shows in the U.S. before signing a record deal with AIR/EMI Records in the United Kingdom. A UK tour followed in support of the single "Way of the World" produced by David Prater. Their 1989 effort "Angels With Dirty Faces" was released worldwide in 2005, and thanks to the internet has found its place in the AOR community gaining popularity in Europe, South America and Japan.
During the 1980's the bands home base was the "Orchard Grove Bar" in North Bergen, NJ. Proprietor - VIncent ( Shorty) Romano - gave the band a home where they could work out material, develop a sound and build an audience. This is a compilation of some of those songs that were recorded over the years at Sanctuary Recording in Caldwell, NJ, The Music Grinder in Los Angeles, Back Pocket Studios in NYC and Cove City in Long Island. The tapes were restored by Eugene Bohensky and then transferred to digital.
The era of the Orchard Grove was too much fun and filled with great memories for the musicians and hundreds of fans who turned up show after show. Following are some of the very talented people who contributed to these recordings and live shows through the years. A special thanks to: Joey Sykes, John Teto, Nelson Williams, Bobby Guy, Britt Savage, Kim Parent, Tony Polemeni, Kevin Jenkins, Doug Kistner, Gregg Montante,Tommy "Gunn" Mongelli, Alan Dunn, Bobby Bender, Robert "Fish" Giordano, Tokyo Stein, Danny "Torch" Pelicano and Steve ( Liquid Lou) D'Anna. Last but not least our Sound-Man Tom Heinish, Photographer Michael Kennedy, and one man road crew . . . Joey Romano. Thank you all!
*Nicky Hopkins plays piano on Step Into The Fire
*Richie Cannata plays saxophone on The Word.
