Description

Draws from the sounds of the late 1960s quartets, creating songs that are forward thinking yet grounded in the tradition of jazz. A little bit outside and a little bit inside, distorted guitar, deadly saxophone, bass and drums locked!

Notes

Pete Weise is currently Associate Professor of Jazz Guitar at Collin College, faculty member of the National Guitar Workshop and contributor to Premier Guitar Magazine. He is a graduate of the University of North Texas Jazz program giving him the opportunity to study with Fred Hamilton and take lessons with Dave Fiuczynski, Brad Shepik, John McLean and Jimi Tunnell.
Weise has performed with Clay Jenkins, Tom Malone, Wayne Burgeron and has freelanced with a wide variety of bands and orchestras in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, all contributing to to his compositional style. While living in Denton, TX he participated in a number of collaborations with other musicians in non-traditional ensembles exploring the boundaries of improvisation and song form.

Salome’s Blues is a compilation of modern, original jazz compositions from the last ten years reflecting Weise’s diverse musical experiences in the context of traditional jazz. With the help of Mario Cruz on saxophone, Jacob Smith on electric bass and Zach Forsyth on drums, the group draws from the sounds of the late 1960s quartets, creating a modern collection of songs that are forward thinking yet grounded in the tradition of jazz.
