Description

This is a re-release of the first of two albums recorded by this very distinctive and innovative five piece traditional Irish group from Co. Mayo, Ireland.
The group features Brian Lennon (Flute/Whistles), Tom Doherty (Accordion/ Melodeon), John Mc Hugh (Fiddle), Kevin Doherty (Double Bass) and Declan Askin (Guitar/Vocals).
This album was originally recorded in 2001 with their follow up album ‘Out of their Shell’ released in 2005.

Notes

Over a number of wet and windy Sunday nights in October 1999 five unique musicians gathered in Matt Molloy’s pub in Westport, Co. Mayo.

They played music that reflected their individual style and influences.

This debut CD 'Like a Wild Thing' released in 2001 created a very distinctive sound within the genre of Irish traditional music.

‘These five lads from various backgrounds first started to play together at a regular Sunday night session in my pub in Westport. It soon became clear that they were developing a distinctive and original sound, combining the best of traditional music with contemporary songs and arrangements. This recording does great justice to their individual and collective talent. It has a very broad appeal and I highly recommend it.’

‘Débutantes Céide are a quintet with not just attitude, but finesse by the bucket load.’
...............Siobhan Long, Irish Times

‘Slick musicianship and great, solid arrangements’
...............Fintan Vallelly, Sunday Tribune
